Gaming systems have come a long way since Pong and Atari. They\u2019re not just toys\u2014they\u2019re sophisticated, connected technologies. If a device can store data, it can hold electronically stored information (ESI). From personal data to messages, gaming consoles are just as likely to carry digital evidence as smartphones or computers. Here are a few things commonly stored on a gaming system:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Player\u2019s name<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Birthdate<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Address<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mobile Number<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Email address<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Credit card information<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Virtual currency transactions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Screenshots<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Game streaming<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Time spent on video games<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chat logs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Geographical information<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Social network information<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Achievements<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Friends<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>IP addresses<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Digital images<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Personal profiles<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/strong><a><\/a><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;AND MORE<\/strong> depending on the gaming system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Game consoles are no longer just for gaming. They\u2019ve become tools for criminal activity\u2014extortion, identity theft, and even more horrific crimes like child pornography. As these devices get smarter and more connected, so do the ways they\u2019re exploited for harm. Technology is evolving, but so is the dark side of the digital world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Take the case in June 2009, when a Massachusetts state trooper was investigating a suspect involved with an underage girl. The officer was searching for one crucial piece of evidence: a video of the encounter, stored on a digital device at the suspect\u2019s home. But here\u2019s the twist\u2014it wasn\u2019t a computer. It was the suspect\u2019s game console.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is more than a tech issue; it\u2019s about understanding how criminals are adapting to the tools available to them. Extracting data from a gaming system is different from a PC. MMOs connect hundreds, even thousands, of players on the same server, often within expansive, persistent open worlds. These games are accessible across a wide range of platforms, including personal computers, video game consoles, smartphones, and other mobile devices. <em>MU Legend<\/em> and <em>Black Desert<\/em> are prime examples of such MMOs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;Some MMOs may change ownership from one company to another, requiring players to migrate their data to a new provider.
